The Cole County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam circulating in mid-Missouri.
According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s department, people are reporting calls from deputies, falsely stating there is a warrant for their arrest, and demanding money to get the warrant dropped.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that law enforcement will never ask for payment over the phone or call to let someone know of a warrant over the phone and reminds people to never share personal information over the phone with someone they don’t know.
