Trial Begins for Former Cooper County Jail Lieutenant in Inmate Death Case

The jury trial for former Cooper County Sheriff’s lieutenant Robyn Pfeiffer begins today.
Pfeiffer is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2024 death of inmate Brooke Bailey.
Officials say Bailey, 33, died in her jail cell from untreated diabetes.
Prosecutors allege Pfeiffer, who was the jail supervisor, failed to get Bailey medical help and discouraged staff from intervening.
Bailey’s family has attended court hearings wearing “Justice for Brooke” shirts, saying they want to be her voice.
The trial is expected to run through February 6th.
A former court deputy, Rachel Atherton, also faces charges, with her trial set for April 21st.
