Bulldog boys claim win at Quincy Shootout

The Mexico Bulldogs scored a 71-65 win Saturday over Brown County, Illinois in the Quincy Notre Dame Shootout at The Pit in Quincy, Illinois.

Fresh off a fast paced loss Friday night, the Bulldogs were able to regroup for the win. They led the group from Mt. Sterling 35-34 at the half behind strong play from Kaden Benne and Charlie Fisher. They posted 14 and 13 in the first half, respectively.

The Hornets scored the first four points of the third quarter, which was a back and forth affair, until two James Matthews free throws at the 2:47 mark gave the Bulldogs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, 48-47. A Matthews pull-up jumper from 14 feet of the left wing extended the lead to three with 1:09 left in the third.

Benne and Fisher led Mexico in scoring with 16 and Mathews scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half.

The Hornets fell to 15-9. The win for Mexico bumped their record to 12-5.
