Columbia Parks Projects Aim to Transform Trails and Recreation Spaces

The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department is planning several projects citywide, all funded by the 2021 parks sales tax.

One major proposal would “railbank” 2.5 miles of the Columbia Terminal Railroad, turning unused train tracks from Rogers Street to Brown Station Road into a walking trail with the option to restore rails in the future.

The department is also proposing upgrades for Field Park, adding pickleball courts, bike racks, and a new playground, while Northeast Regional Park home of the Boone County Fair could see its own renovation.

Public input meetings for both projects are scheduled this month and in March, where residents can view designs and share feedback.
