The Columbia City Council has unanimously approved a $400,000 budget amendment to expand parking at Columbia Regional Airport.
The project will add 600 spaces to a gravel lot just south of the terminal.
City officials say the expansion is needed as American Airlines adds more flights, United Airlines returns, and Allegiant Air begins service, all boosting passenger numbers.
The new lot will temporarily serve as overflow parking while the city works on long-term paved parking improvements outlined in its 2025 plan.
Funding comes from the city’s transportation sales tax
