Columbia Police Safely Clear Sylvan Lane Standoff, No Injuries Reported


Authorities say the Columbia Police Department cleared a standoff on Sylvan Lane around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday without pursuing a search warrant.

It began near 3:30 p.m. after a report of an assault with a weapon, though police later confirmed no injuries.

Officers secured the area and attempted to contact the resident inside the 1800 block of Sylvan Lane, but the suspect remained inside as the scene was cleared.

Columbia police issued a public advisory to avoid Sylvan Lane during the investigation.

The department’s first social post about the incident went out at about 5:50 p.m.

The suspect’s name has not been released, and police say this remains an active investigation pending further information.
