Teen Charged After High-Speed I-70 Chase Ends in Cooper County Crash

A 18-year-old Indianapolis man has been charged in Missouri over a Tuesday Interstate 70 pursuit that ended in a Cooper County crash.

Court documents say he faces felony counts including second-degree assault on a special victim, aggravated fleeing a traffic stop, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, plus a misdemeanor for driving without a license.

Authorities say the suspect was driving a stolen 2024 Honda Civic from Omaha, Nebraska.

The pursuit started on I-70 in Lafayette County, moved east through Saline County, and ended in Cooper County, with speeds exceeding 100 mph at times.

The crash occurred around 1:38 p.m. at the 89-mile marker as the suspect tried to dodge a tire-deflation device, the crash report states.

The Civic went off the left side of the roadway, hit a cable barrier, crossed the median, and struck a westbound semitruck, before coming to a rest in the center median on its top.
