Saturday afternoon fire in Columbia

Columbia Fire crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire Saturday afternoon in the 700 block of Cook Ave.

According to a news release from the department, firefighters were called at 2:57 p.m. and were on the scene within five minutes to a shed and single-story home. Both were engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

Crews immediately did a quick search for inhabitants, and then climbed to the roof to fight the fire from there as it had extended to the attic of the home

CFD got the fire under control within 10 minutes. One person was home during the fire, but evacuated safely before fire crews arrived.

The Columbia Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
