Starting April 1st, Mexico residents will see a slight increase in their monthly trash service rates.
The City Council recently approved a 4.11 percent hike, raising the base rate to $16.29 a month, with a fuel-cost cap of $17.49.
City Finance Director Vicki Duenke says the 64-cent increase helps cover the Sanitation Department’s projected $863,000 in operating costs for the year, which include hazardous waste collection.
Mexico’s rate remains below the regional average of $19.27, with Vandalia being the only nearby city offering a lower base rate.
