Remains found in Rocky Fork Lakes: identified as missing Columbia man

Human remains that were found at Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area have been identified as 41-year-old Daniel Lee Thompson of Columbia.

Thompson was first reported missing in July 2023 after his vehicle was discovered abandoned at the conservation area near Finger Lakes State Park.

A large search followed, but no trace of him was found at the time.

Police say the remains, discovered last year, were recently confirmed to be Thompson through identification methods.

Family members had called his disappearance highly unusual, noting he never went anywhere without his dog, who was found at his home.
