McClain charged after causing accident

A 32-year-old Columbia woman went on a couple of different shopping sprees on Thursday. Neither were of the legal kind.

Jefferson City Police were called to Target around 5:12pm for a robbery in progress. Officers arrived to find Victoria McClain attempting to leave in a vehicle, which officers attempted to stop, but the woman fled the scene. When officers pursued the suspect, she allegedly began throwing merchandise out of her car. According to the news release, officers called off the pursuit due to unsafe conditions.

However, McClain allegedly crashed into five vehicles on the U.S. 54 and U.S. 63 Missouri River bridge, and then attempted to hijack one of the vehicles she hit.

Fortunately, she was taken into custody by nearby officers and was arrested for carjacking, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and three misdemeanors: Stealing, not having car insurance and failing to register a vehicle.

She is being held at the Cole County Jail, without bond.
