Repeat E. Coli Tests Prompt Action

Residents in Eldon are under a mandatory boil order after repeat water samples tested positive for E. coli contamination.

City officials began temporarily chlorinating the water system Wednesday as crews work to disinfect the supply and conduct additional testing. Residents may notice a stronger chlorine taste or smell, along with some cloudiness or discoloration in the water.

State officials say the latest contamination, along with previous E. coli issues over the winter, has prompted plans for permanent disinfection measures in Eldon’s water system.

The boil order remains in effect until clean test results are received on consecutive days.

Until then, residents should continue boiling water used for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.
