Severe Weather Update Wednesday Morning

A heightened severe weather threat is expected this afternoon and evening across central and northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois.

Forecasters are tracking two rounds of thunderstorms today, with a second, potentially stronger round developing later this afternoon and continuing into the overnight hours.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect, with sustained southwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts reaching 50 miles per hour ahead of an approaching cold front.

Damaging winds remain the primary severe weather threat, though large hail, isolated tornadoes, and localized flash flooding are also possible.

Forecasters are confident thunderstorms will develop, but the exact coverage and southern extent of the strongest storms remains uncertain.
