Crews Battle Fire At McDonald’s on Providence Road

Firefighters battled both flames and dangerous heat Tuesday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Providence Road in Columbia.

Crews arrived around 4 p.m. and had the fire under control within about 20 minutes. Because of the extreme temperatures, additional firefighters and EMS crews were called to the scene.

First responders rotated out to cool off and stay hydrated, but two firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses.

No civilians were injured. In all, 42 first responders, including 11 fire companies, responded to the fire.
