MU Breaks Ground on Energy Research Center
The University of Missouri broke ground Wednesday on a new energy research center aimed at developing more sustainable and efficient ways to use power and water.
The 116-thousand-square-foot Payne Energy Innovation Center is named for MU graduate David Payne, who donated 50 million dollars to the College of Engineering — the largest single investment in an MU school or college.
The facility will bring together students, faculty and researchers from multiple disciplines. MU says research will include energy efficiency and ways to cool data centers as artificial intelligence use grows.
The center is expected to open north of Lafferre Hall in July 2028.
