Downtown Leaders Push for Action on Homelessness
Downtown Columbia leaders say they’re frustrated with what they call a lack of action from City Council on urban camping and downtown safety.
The District’s Board of Directors discussed the concerns Tuesday, saying it has been pushing the city for months to consider an ordinance addressing urban camping.
Business owners and board members say homelessness and safety concerns are affecting employees, customers and potential investors.
The board also questioned whether the Voluntary Action Center’s Opportunity Campus is providing enough resources to address homelessness.
The District says it wants to continue working with City Council on potential solutions and additional resources.
