Columbia Gets $16.2 Million Rail Grant
Columbia is receiving more than 16-million dollars in federal funding to modernize the Columbia Terminal Railroad.
U.S. Representative Mark Alford announced the 16-point-2-million-dollar grant Thursday. The project will upgrade tracks, improve safety and introduce autonomous rail technology.
The 20.8-million-dollar project includes new railroad ties, charging stations and improvements at crossings along the 21-mile route between Columbia and Centralia.
The federal grant will cover most of the cost, with the city of Columbia and private partners contributing the remaining 4-point-6 million dollars.
