Physicians in the area are seeing an increase in influenza recently.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the confirmed cases of influenza have exceeded those from last year.
The flu season typically starts around October and ends around May.
To avoid the illness, avoid contact with sick people and wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, and do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
