Representative Files Bills Over Student Loan Debt

Representative Kip Kendrick of Columbia filed two bills to address rising student loan debt yesterday.

The Student Debt Relief Act would lengthen the repayment period and allow lower payments and allow borrowers to refinance their loans with lower interest rates.

The Student Loan Bill of Rights would proved information, customer service and access to repayment options for borrowers, as well as installing an ombudsman in the Department of Higher Education.

The average student in the state of Missouri who uses loans to pay for higher education will owe approximately 26 thousand dollars upon graduation.
