Snowy Owls Spotted in Audrain County

Some Audrain residents are reporting seeing Snowy Owls.

According to Audrain County Conservation Agent, Norman Steelman, he has received calls of the Arctic birds being spotted on Route B, south of Rush Hill and north of Centralia.

The Department of Conservation says a likely food shortage in their natural habitat has pushed the birds further south than normal.

Snowy Owls are named for their white color. They are among the larges of the owl species, with wingspans topping 4 feet.
