Adoptee Rights Bill in Effect

The Missouri Adoptee Rights Act took effect today. [Tuesday]

The bill allows Missouri adults who were adopted to receive a copy of their original birth certificate.

The document can be received by applying through Department of Health and Senior Services and Bureau of Vital Statistics.

Before the new laws went into effect, original birth certificates could only be gotten by a court order.
