A new coalition to improve the workforce in the Mexico area has been formed to encourage middle school and high school students to learn more about manufacturing jobs.
The group, called Maximizing Opportunities for Resources for Employment and Education, is a joint effort with the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, area manufacturers and Mexico Public Schools.
Several events are planned to draw attention to jobs in the area, including an expanded presence at the Mexico School’s Find Your Path Career Night on February 21.
On January 11, all area manufacturers are invited to attend a meeting with Stephanie Schmitt, the Apprenticeship and Training Representative for the U.S. Department of Labor. The presentation will be held at 3:00 in room 168 at MACC in Mexico.
While the initial focus is on manufacturing, the plans are to expand the program in the future to include medical jobs, technology, business, mechanics and construction.
