Cards Fall In Opening Day, Sign Closer Holland

It was a rough opening day for the St. Louis Cardinals as they fell to the New York Mets 9 to 4.

Starting pitcher Carlos Martinez couldn’t find his control this afternoon, walking 6 Mets and allowing 4 hits.

Homeruns off the bats of Yadier Molina and Jose Martinez were not enough to stop New York as they went on to a 5 run 5th inning.

Mets pitcher, Noah Syndergaard threw 10 strikeouts in the game.

The redbirds are now off until Saturday.

In other Cardinals news, the organization has answered the question of what they are going to do about a gap in the closing pitcher rotation.

The Cards have signed all star closer Greg Holland to a 1 year deal worth a reported 14 million dollars. Holland was expected to undergo a physical this afternoon. He had 41 saves for the Colorado Rockies last season.
