Parson Signs Legislation To Raise Marriage Age

Governor Mike Parson signed a bill yesterday [Friday] that raises the marriage age in the state from 15 to 16.

The measure requires that 16 and 17 year olds have parental permission to be married. It also prohibits someone over the age of 21 from marrying anyone 17 years of age or younger.

In addition to the marriage specifications in the legislation, the bill also provides a way from people convicted of some sex crimes to be removed from the sex offender registry, and removes the statutes of limitation for sex crimes against children.
