KXEO Sports Report for 7/16/18

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 yesterday (Sunday).

It was the first victory under interim manager Mike Shildt, one day removed from the firing of Mike Matheny.

The redbirds offense got started early Matt Carpenter opened up the game with a leadoff home run, while the struggling Dexter Fowler hit one out of the park in the second inning.

The Cardinals are now off for the all star break until Thursday when they start a series with the Chicago Cubs.

The Kansas City Royals lost 10-1 to the Chicago White Sox.

With the loss the Royals completed the worst first half of a season in franchise history.

The team is 27-68 at the half way mark and have only won 28 percent of their games.

No team in baseball has allowed more runs than Kansas City, and no team has scored less often.

In better news for the Royals catcher Salvador Perez will be the starting catcher for the American League in the All-Star game tomorrow (Tuesday).

Perez was originally selected as a reserve but will now replace Tampa Bay’s Wilson Ramos who will the miss the game with an injury.
