Thousands Of Acres Of Corn Destroyed In Storms

Thousands of acres corn crops in Audrain and Montgomery County were destroyed when severe storms blew through the area on Monday night.

Melanie Utterback with Utterback Crop Insurance says she has had multiple individual farmers report having 600 to 800 acres damaged by strong winds. She says the corn is broken, twisted and laying flat on the ground.

Utterback reports in the 8 years she has been working in crop insurance she has never seen a disaster like this.

She says Republican nominee for the House of Representatives and local farmer Kent Haden is reaching out to the capital saying some farmers in the area are in a state of emergency.
