Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley issued a a scam alert today [Thursday] warning Missourians about a new telephone scam.
The Attorney General’s Office has received numerous complaints this week after being contacted by scammers claiming to represent the Social Security Administration.
The caller claims the person’s social security benefits have been suspended and they need to call back to get it fixed. They then acquire personal information that can be used to commit identity theft or fraud.
Hawley’s office says if you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration to contact the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.
