A judge is ruling that the Missouri Attorney General’s Office will not be responsible for paying thousands of dollars for the mitigation investigation of a murder suspect.
Judge Steven Ohmer ruled last week on Friday the state is no longer is responsible for paying forty thousand dollars to a specialist to travel to Mexico to investigate Pablo Serrano-Vitorino’s background.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Vitorino on charges of murder, burglary and armed criminal action in March of 2016.
Vitorino is accused of shooting and killing four people in Kansas City, Kansas then leaving the area, and killing Randy Nordman of Montgomery County when his car broke down on I-70 near Nordman’s house.
A trial is scheduled to start on October 7th.
