Teen Killed In Sunday Fire Was Trapped In Bed

Documents released today [Wednesday] indicate a 14 year old girl that died in a house fire on Sunday in Maries County had been enclosed in her bed.

First responders arrived at the home outside Vichy on Maries County Road 438. When crews made entry into the home they found Ashlyn Ellis in bed, with a closed and latched gate.

A detective determined the wooden gate was installed with a spring loaded hasp, only accessible from the outside of the bed. The girl was unable to speak or walk.

Her mother, 42 year old Tracy Ellis, had left for work at the time of the blaze, knowingly leaving Ashlyn alone for hours. She was arrested yesterday [Tuesday] and will be arraigned tomorrow [Thursday] at 9AM.
