Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway released an audit detailing uncertainty and confusion related to the state’s individual income tax withholding tables today. [Tuesday]
A release from Galloway says the Department of Revenue failed to communicate with Missourians on how changes to withholding would affect their bank account.
New withholding tables were released in March and October of 2018, and again in January 2019.
According to the audit, the most recent change is expected to result in an additional $62.9 million being paid by Missourians with adjusted gross incomes of less than $125 thousand annually.
Additionally, Galloway alleges the administration failed to follow legal processes for the changes despite state law requiring legislative and public review.
