A man who admitted to shooting a man to death in Columbia in 2017 was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Ricky Gurley was at his home on May 22, 2017 when Cameron Caruthers attempted to enter. Gurley shot one shotgun round into Caruther’s torso and claimed self-defense. He was not charged with his death.
Gurley’s sentence was based on his lengthy criminal history that includes carrying a concealed weapon, felonious restraint and larceny.
