Update On Massive Storm In Jefferson City

A search and rescue effort is ongoing after a violent tornado moved through Jefferson City overnight.

Officials say most of the damage happened along Stadium Boulevard, Dunklin Street and Ellis Boulevard.

Authorities say about 20 residents were injured and taken to the hospital by EMS, however, no confirmed fatalities.

Missouri Task Force 1 and Jefferson City police officers are establishing a perimeter in the city to determine areas with the most need for emergency resources.

The American Red Cross has set up emergency shelters at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, the YMCA on Stadium Boulevard and the YMCA on Ellis Boulevard.

Ameren UE says there were 13,000 power outages in the area and 7 reported gas leaks.

Lincoln University in Jefferson City will be closed today (Thursday) and will reopen Tuesday, May 28th.
