The St. Louis Cardinals with a 7-4 series opening win over the Cincinnati Reds on the road last (Thursday) night.

The Redbirds got down early 3-0.

Then Paul DeJong broke out of a slump and hit his first home run in a month.

Rookie Tommy Edman hit the Cardinals first grand slam of the season and broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning.

The Kansas City Royals completed a sweep of the Chicago White Sox winning 6-5 yesterday (Thursday) in some sweltering heat at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals improved to 6-1 since the All-Star break.

The University of Missouri presented it’s appeal to the NCAA over a handful of penalties handed down back in January for academic fraud.

University Chancellor Alexander Cartwright traveled to Indiana to make the appeal in front of the NCAA Appeals Committee.

Missouri Athletic Director Jim Sterk says he appreciates the time the appeals committee has spent on this case and hopes the committee takes into consideration Missouri’s cooperation.

The NCAA’s final decision is expected sometime mid-August however it could extend into the football season.

MU volleyball

Wayne and Susan Kreklow are announcing their retirement as coaches from the volley program after 19 years.

The Kreklows took over Mizzou volleyball in 2000, and their teams have earned 15 NCAA tournament berths, including four Sweet Sixteens and an Elite Eight appearance.

Assistant coach Joshua Taylor will be promoted to interim head coach for the upcoming season.
