University of Missouri Health Care released information today [Friday] on a data security breach involving patient information.
The information obtained in the incident include patient dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance information and limited treatment and clinical information. The breach also included social security numbers for some patients.
MU Health Care was notified on May 1 that an “unauthorized individual” may have gained access to 2 employee email accounts between April 23 and May 1.
Approximately 14,400 patients had information that was found in the account, and less than one percent of those had their social security number exposed.
The patients impacted by the breach have been notified and credit monitoring services are being provided to those who social security number was exposed.
