ACLU Says Not Enough Time To Collect Signatures
Critics of Missouri’s new law that restricts abortions will not make a push to gather the signatures needed to put it to a public vote.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri says it is impossible to collect the nearly 100 thousand voter signatures required in two weeks when the new law takes effect.
The ACLU filed a referendum petition in hopes voters would overturn the law, but had to wait for Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft to certify the petition before collecting signatures. He did so yesterday. [Wednesday]
The ACLU is now focusing on registering voters for the 2020 election.
