Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has issued a consumer alert about a potential scam targeting elderly and vulnerable citizens.
Scammers have made the phone number appear to be coming from the U.S. Government or the U.S. District Court. The caller sounds like a child, pretending to be their grandchild who is currently being held in jail, and need money to get out.
The Attorney General’s Office recommends asking questions that would be difficult for a scammer to answer correctly or contacting the person they claim to be or a close friend or relative of the person.
If a Missourian receives this call they are urged to contact the Attorney General’s Office.
