Columbia Police Chief, Mayor Hold Press Conference

Columbia Chief of Police Geoff Jones and Mayor Brian Treece gave a joint press conference this afternoon [Wednesday] regarding homicides and gun violence throughout the city.

Chief Jones announced warrants have been issued in relation to the deaths of E’Quan Spain and Nadria Wright.

Police say they are searching for Aaron Harris for Spain’s death and Javion Wallace-Lawhorn for Wright’s murder.

Mayor Treece said Columbia has a “hurricane of violence hovering over the community right now.” He went on to say that “police cannot arrest their way out of this problem; this is a community problem.”

So far this year, Columbia has seen 9 homicides, seven of which were caused by gun violence.
