A 27 year old junior middleweight boxer, Patrick Day is dead after suffering a knockout loss this past Saturday night.
According to ESPN Day died of brain injuries yesterday (Wednesday) at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Day was knocked down by right hands in the fourth and eighth rounds by unbeaten Charles Conwell.
In the 10th round Conwell landed 2 rights and a left hook that knocked out Day.
When Day went down, the back of his head slammed onto the canvas.
He was immediately surrounded by medical personnel and within minutes taken out of the ring on a stretcher and to an ambulance.
Yesterday (Wednesday) surrounded by his parents, and other family members, he was disconnected from the machines that had been keeping him alive.
