The Columbia Fire Department is reporting the cause of an explosion and fire on May 29 at 2112 Southwood Drive that left one dead in Columbia was intentional.
Investigators from the fire department and the Columbia Police department ruled the blaze was set by the occupant.
Crews were called to the residence just before 9:30 in the morning after several small explosions were heard.
The entire home was destroyed by fire. The remains of a 59 year old man were located in the debris.
Investigation has determined the cause of his death was suicide.
