October 29 Proclaimed Buckle Up Phone Down Day

Mexico Mayor Dr. Ayanna Shiver read a proclamation at the Mexico City Council Meeting declaring October 29 Buckle Up Phone Down Day in the city.The proclamation was then presented to Audrain Ambulance Director Kevin Cash.The council also voted to approve an ordinance allowing roadside memorial markers that were previously banned in the city.Councilman Chris Miller moved to amend the ordinance to say that markers can be left up for 120 days as opposed to 180 that was originally written into the ordnance.The council agreed to enter into their annual contracts with the Mexico Senior Center and the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce.The senior center will receive $14 thousand to offset costs of food and activities, while the chamber will receive $13 thousand for marketing activities.
