The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce has named a Mexico Middle School counselor as the Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year.
Darlene Shopher is in her 19th year at the middle school where she serves as department chair and was instrumental in changing Mexico Junior High School to Mexico Middle School.
She brought the annual Reality Store to MMS, that allows each eighth grader to participate in real-life simulation of managing a budget with the financial limitations of a career.
The winner is chosen from letters submitted to the appointed education committee.
Shopher will receive the award at the Chamber’s annual meeting and dinner on January 7.
