Mexico Public Safety is reporting a social security scam going around in the area.
According to the department over the past several weeks, numerous citizens have reported receiving the suspicious phone calls where an automated message claiming to be from the Social Security Administration says the person’s social security has been hacked and shut down.
The message then tells the person to push a button to speak with someone.
If the person continues the call, they speak with someone who wants them to pay money with a gift card to secure their social security number.
Mexico Public Safety says this is a scam and citizens are being reminded that no legitimate company or government entity will call you needing personal information or want payment with money cards or money grams.
