Missouri Tigers Softball outfielder Brooke Wilmes is the University of Missouri’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year.
Mizzou Athletics announced Wilmes is being nominated for her outstanding work in athletic competition and in the community.
The NCAA received 535 nominations for the prestigious award.
The field will be eventually narrowed down to nine finalists and the Committee on Women’s Athletics will select a winner.
The St. Louis Cardinals will honor longtime catcher and Hall of Famer Ted Simmons later this month.
The club announced yesterday (Thursday) they will retire Simmons No. 23 and a statue will be unveiled in a pre-game ceremony on July 31st.
Just over a month later the man they call Simba will be formally inducted into Cooperstown.
Simmons statue will be the 12th outside Busch Stadium, and the first erected by the club since Ozzie Smith’s unveiling in 2002.
An opening ceremony for the 37th annual Show-Me State Games gets underway at Mizzou Arena tonight (Friday) at 7.
A Torch Run at the Governor’s Garden in Jefferson City takes place this (Friday) morning at 11.
The torch has made stops in Kansas City, St. Joseph, St. Louis, St. Charles, Springfield and Cape Girardeau.
It will arrive in Columbia at Shelter Insurance this afternoon at 1pm for the final Torch Run.
The Show-Me State games will feature over 40 sports.
