Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Files Charges Against Teacher For Incident At Eugene Field Elementary School

The Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney has filed two charges against a teacher in Mexico.

Mexico Public Safety completed an investigation in May into an April incident at Eugene Field Elementary School where Katrina Dukes a physical education teacher is accused of hitting a second grade special needs student with a bag of dodge balls.

The case was also investigated by the Children’s Division Out of Home Division, however the findings of that investigation have not been made public.

KXEO news is trying to obtain the probable cause statement.

According to Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger, Dukes is being charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree.

Child abuse is a class D felony and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree with physical injury is a class C felony.

A court date has not been set as of this time.

Ms. Dukes will be served a summons and notice with her court date.

According to the Mexico School District Dukes is still on paid administrative leave at this time.
