The 35th National Ceremony commemorating the World War II “Battle of Exercise Tiger” this (Friday) afternoon allowed veterans and families to recognize not only the six Audrain County men who died in the exercise, but Vietnam Veterans as well.
The ceremony, held at the Exercise Tiger memorial on the grounds of the Audrain County Courthouse, included remarks from the Secretary of the U. S. Navy who was unable to attend but were delivered by Petty Officer Bryan Lesher from the Columbia Naval Recruiting Station.
A bell tolled for each ship lost in the battle, for each Audrain County man lost, those lost in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and finally,
The ceremony ended with the placing of wreaths and a 3-plane flyover by The Kingdom Pilots Association of Fulton in a missing man formation.
