Heating Issues And Water Main Breaks Causes Classes To Be Canceled In Mexico School District

The Mexico School District is dealing with some heating issues and water main breaks in some of their buildings causing classes to be canceled again on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

According to Mexico Schools Communications Director Marci Orr, a water main broke at Hawthorne Elementary due to the extreme cold temperatures.

The part is expected to be in today (Wednesday) to fix it.

Some classrooms at Eugene Field are without heat.

The part is on its way and there’s a logistical plan in place for students if they return to school and it is not fixed.

At the Mexico High School the heat in the Gooch gym and some other areas of the high school has made it quite cool.

This also being rectified by maintenance according to the district.

Some buses were not starting due to the extreme wind chill and temps.

The district is reminding that HVAC is a huge part of their Paws For Progress bond question they are asking voters to approve in April.
