Mexico Public Safety Responds To Uncontrolled Fire
No structural damage and no injuries reported following a uncontrolled fire in a large wooded in Mexico on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Mexico Public Safety officers started looking for the source of heavy smoke in the 1700 block of East Liberty Street around 2pm on Thursday.
Officers found an uncontrolled fire in a large wooded area containing a lot of dead timber, about 3/4 of a mile south of Liberty Street.
Additional Mexico Public Safety personnel were called to the scene and Little Dixie Fire Protection District responded to a mutual aid request.
The fire was stopped from advancing any further to the north or onto neighboring properties.
Then around 10 Thursday night, it was determined the fire was shifting out of the burned area to the southeast, and personnel returned to stop the spread.
The fire was contained and is being allowed to burn out.
The fire apparently spread from some land clearing that was occurring nearby.
