Four people, including two children, were killed in Macon County following a vehicle crash on Highway 36 during the morning hours of Friday, May 17, 2024.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the crash happened when a vehicle driven by 85-year-old Jean Jones of Macon, failed to yield and hit a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Julie Alspaugh of Hannibal.
Alspaugh’s vehicle then lost control and traveled into the path of a 2016 Freightliner driven by Eugene Niethe III of Illinois.
Alspaugh was pronounced dead at the scene, as were her two of her passengers, 30-year-old Kailen Ritter Quigley and a 4-year-old girl, both of Quincy, Illinois.
Another passenger in a vehicle, a 7-year-old boy from Quincy was brought to Samaritan Hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries.
