Mexico Man Facing Multiple Charges After Allegedly Firing A Gun And Assaulting A Teen

A Mexico, Missouri man is facing four felony charges after being accused of firing a gun before smacking a teenaged driver on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

James Vomund was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and third degree assault on Monday, June 17, 2024.

According to the probable cause statement, Vomund was parked in the road on Audrain County Road 751 when the victim allegedly stopped behind Vomund’s vehicle and honked a car horn.

The statement says the victim told law enforcement that Vomund pointed a gun away from himself and fired it while standing in the road.

Vomund then allegedly pointed his gun at the victim while his finger was on the trigger.

Vomund then hit the hood of the vehicle with the gun, before allegedly walking up to the driver’s window and smacking the teenager in the face.

Three witnesses allegedly told law enforcement that they were parked with Vomund in order to talk with him.

Witnesses claimed that the teenager was driving fast, stopped and honked his horn at Vomund’s vehicle that was in the road, court documents say.

One witness claimed Vomund fired a shot into the air, while two other witnesses say he fired the gun into a ditch, court documents say.

Vomund is being held at the Audrain County Jail without bond. and a hearing scheduled on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
