Arrest Warrant Issued For Mexico Man Connected To 2021 Shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued from the Circuit Court of Audrain County for a Mexico, Missouri man wanted in connection to a 2021 shooting.

According to court records a arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday, for 36-year-old Randy Jay Curtis Jr. Mexico Public Safety Department responded to a shooting on September 18, 2021 near the 1000 block of Buchanan Street.

Upon arrival, multiple shell casings were found on the ground, and one vehicle was present with bullet holes.

The victim had reportedly been with people who got into an argument with Curtis, which is why he allegedly shot at their car several times.

They claimed that he was the only one shooting, but there was another person who got out of Curtis’ car with a gun.

Mexico Public Safety Department also noted that there was a three-year old child in the victim’s car during the incident.

The victim told officers that they shot back in self-defense.

Other witnesses backed the victim’s statements and claimed that a car was driving down the 900 block of Buchanan St. and threw a gun and magazine out the window into someone’s front yard.

They stated that a black man later came back to retrieve the firearm.

After the victim described the car to police, Mexico Public Safety was able to locate it at the Audrain Community Hospital with bullet holes in the side.

Curtis was inside the hospital receiving treatment for a minor gunshot wound.

Curtis told officers that he did fire guns that day but declined to disclose whether or not they had been fired at the scene.

Curtis faces charges of two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon by shooting from a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
